We told 100 years-worth of shared history between America and Slovakia in just three minutes

In 2018, we celebrated two important holidays – the 25th year of our independence and the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Pittsburgh Agreement and our shared relations with the United States. Together with the US Embassy in the Slovak Republic, we decided to commemorate these events for young people who are less interested in history, as well as for other groups. The main goal of the campaign was to raise awareness of Slovak-American relations and contribute to their positive perception.

We created a “cheat sheet” for students

We created the Courage to Be Free campaign for the US Embassy. It included a tour of schools, during which we wanted to tell our students our 100-year history together. We created a three-minute video packed with facts and important milestones.

The narrator of the story is a small grain of corn, with rapper Lyrik H lending his voice to the character alongside Roland Kánik (Modré hory / Blue Mountains). The script and visuals of the video were created in close collaboration between our creative team, the Embassy, and the studio that animated the video.

We used a microsite to tell the story

We also set up the odvahabytslobodni.skwebsite, where we explained the details of the events in six stories. When developing the story, our editorial team studied dozens of pages of historical material based on discussions with an historian and an interview with the Embassy.

The video has more than 400,000 views

We invented our own branding for the entire campaign. When creating the logo, we used a simple 3 x 3 grid filled with squares and symbols that represent both countries. No one country dominates the logo and the visual depicts the cooperation between the countries and their equal relationship.
